The purpose of a trade mark is to identify a product and to assist communication among buyers and sellers. Trade marks are signs or names that are used to distinguish goods or services. A trade mark enables a consumer to see at a glance which company is selling the product or service in question. Origin is the most important characteristic, another important function being the denotation of quality: a trade mark confers a certain quality on the goods that carry it.

Your company can stand out from its competitors by adopting a trade mark. This gives you an exclusive right to apply it to the goods or services for which it has been registered. A trade mark right arises when the mark is entered in the appropriate registers, once a patent application has been filed.
